Daytime Aardvark!

Video By : James Kydd

Location : Tswalu

Date : 2011-09-03

In eight years of guiding I had seen a total of five aardvark. On our first evening at Tswalu Kalahari while drifting lazily through the red dunes we came across this incredible creature. Thanks to the wind direction we were able to get off the vehicle and view him on foot. It was a real life highlight. The birds following the aardvark are ant-eating chats: they collect stray ants and termites that the aardvark digs up, and in turn act as sentinels for the strange mammal. One the camera shutter of my guests went off, he realized something strange was around and made a comical dash for the hills.
