Watching a male leopard like this stalking his quarry is one of the most thrilling safari experiences. Beautiful evolutionary perfection. His approach is calculated and well planned, considering the terrain, movement of the impala herd, wind direction, and cover. Watch how he keeps his tail down, but when he lifts his head to assess his progress, the tail twitches as if betraying the calculations running through his mind. Note the shoulder blades rising above his back, and how he is able to conceal himself under the short winter grass. And finally, relaxing his body momentarily as he uses the Land Rover for cover. This is the definitive leopard crawl.
