Rhino deaths: one per day by Alex Eliseev - www.iafrica.com

The latest figures from the SA National Parks (SANParks) on Tuesday revealed the country continues to lose rhinos at a rate of around one per day.

On Tuesday, two poachers were gunned down at the Kruger National Park after rangers found them cutting the horn off one of three dead rhinos.

The latest figures show just over 130 rhinos were killed across the country in less than four months, while 72 suspects were arrested, 13 of whom were killed and six wounded.

SANParks' Wanda Mkutshulwa said the army, which was brought in to help secure the border with Mozambique and catch more poachers, is making a difference.

The poachers killed in the latest clash are believed to be Mozambicans. One of the three rhinos killed was a calf.
