Zimbabwean-born Martin is a fanatical birder with a wide-ranging birding itch. After graduating from University with a commerce degree (dissertation focused on the economic and social spin-offs of avitourism of course), he decided to pursue a career in the natural world and operating from Cape Town, he worked as a specialist guide for several world-renowned bird tour companies. He then joined Wilderness Safaris in 2007 and relocated to Johannesburg bringing his naturalist, writing and photographic skills to the company HQ. To date his role has included copy writing in many forms from brochures to blog posts, newsletters, websites and various internal environmental collateral, photographic assignments and eco-tourism advisor. He still guides birding trips each year to varied destinations ranging from India to Malawi, Namibia to Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago. His goal is to see as many bird species of Africa and associated islands in his lifetime as he can!
In a southern African context he is a qualified DEAT/FGASA Level 3 and SKS (birding) guide. He is also a competent African birder and now has sights set on conquering Asian avi-fauna.
